Halloween is a special and spooky time to bring family and friends together to share ideas for creating your very own Halloween decoration for the home. Traditionally speaking, candles were used to help guide spirits away from the home, as well as providing a source of light of course and rather than creating just black candles, we thought we’d help you be a bit more creative.

With the help of Abbey White from Makes Scents Studio, we have put together a creative guide full of inspirational ideas for the home candle makers this Halloween. These stylish DIY candle making ideas are accessible to beginners and the more advanced candle makers alike.

You can also view the video explaining how to make these on our Instagram profile.

Note: Always check your chosen fragrance oil flash point temperature. Make sure when you are adding the fragrance oil it is below this temperature to avoid scent evaporation.

Bubbling Cauldron Candle

Difficulty: ADVANCED

Ingredients:

Step by step instructions:

  1. Make the bubble wax melts:

Melt the Kerasoy pillar wax in a double boiler.

While the wax is melting, clean your wax melt mould. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly.

Let the wax cool down to about 60c.

Add the dye, and the fragrance oil. Mix gently for 2 minutes.

Pour into the wax moulds. Leave to set for a couple of hours.

  1. Make the container candle:

Melt the Kerasoy container wax in a double boiler.

Let the wax cool down to about 60c.

Add the dye, and the fragrance oil. Mix gently for 2 minutes.

Secure your wick in your warm container using a glue dot ensuring it’s centred. You may also want to use a wick centring tool or peg to keep the wick upright and in place.

Gently pour your wax in your container leaving room at the top to add your bubble wax melts.

Leave to set.

Once the container candle wax has set, unmould your bubble wax melts and place them in your container candle.

Reheat the remaining container wax, and pour gently into your candle container in order to encase the bubble wax melts in wax.

Leave to set.

  1. Make the overflowing wax effect

Melt the beeswax (only a few grams per candle).

Add some dye.

Using a plastic pipette, pipe the wax into the pipette and apply slowly around the edges of the container. We used beeswax to ensure drips form on instant contact with the container.

Leave to set.
