Spread the love with this adorable homemade heart candle recipe. Add your chosen fragrance oil and dye to make your candle personal to yourself or a loved one! We have chosen this deep dark red dye to match the glorious scent of black cherry.

With this scent you can experience a prominent aroma associated with fruity cherry and pomegranate. This is most pronounced as your candle starts to burn, filling up your room with a scent that is then enhanced by light undertones of sugared plum, raspberry and black cherry. Incorporated into the formulation for this distinctive fragrance is a delightful trace aftertaste of black tea, metallic notes and cashmere musk.

Want to know how to get started making your very own? Follow our step by step guide to help you along the way.

You will need:

Step 1

First, melt 70g of the wax in a Bain Marie or double boiler on a medium heat. The wax will appear clear and smooth once fully melted and have reached a temperature between 75-80c. You can use a spoon to gently stir the wax to encourage it to melt, avoiding adding any air bubbles.

Whilst the wax melts, you can prepare the tin by making sure it is clean and dry.

Step 2

Next, add the wick in place by sticking a glue dot to one end of the sustainer and then peeling the tab and placing into the middle of the tin. Thread a wick centring tool through the wick and secure in place. We have found placing the wick centring tool vertically sits more securely.

Step 3

Next, weigh out 4g Black Cherry fragrance oil and add to the wax below the temperature of 76°C (this is the oils flashpoint). The flashpoint is the temperature in which the fragrance oil will evaporate, so it is important the you add the oil to the wax below the recommended temperature. Each fragrance oil is slightly different.

Step 4

Pour in the fragrance oil slowly and stir slowly to avoid adding any air bubbles. Stir until it is fully blended into the wax, this usually takes a couple of minutes.

Step 5

Now it’s time to add the dye. Make sure the temperature is between 65-70c. Then take a pinch of dark red dye and add into the melted wax. Stir this slowly until fully blended.

Step 6

Once the dye is blended, check the temperature of the wax is around 70c. Then pour the wax into a jug and continue to slowly pour it into the heart shaped tin.

Step 7

Wait at least 24 hours for the candle to set. Remove the wick centring tool and snip the wick to around 5mm.

Enjoy your heart shaped candle as part of your self-care routine or gift it to a loved one this February. Light it up for a cosy ambience and experience the wonderful comforting aroma of black cherry. Add the heart-shaped lid to your candle when not in use to keep the fragrance at its best.
