Following a nationwide talent search looking for the best up and coming virtual candle making event hosts, we are pleased to announce a new virtual event host partnership with Abbey White of Makes Scents Candles.

Abbey previously worked in the travel sector for STA Travel, where she was unfortunately made redundant with ongoing Covid-19 events impacting the travel sector.

Coming from a creative background, Abbey is a singer and works with a charity called Spread a Smile who visit children in hospitals such as Great Ormond Street. COVID-19 prevented in person visits, giving Abbey spare time to pursue candle making.

“Prior to this I’d been keeping myself busy in lockdown with writing, planting up a garden for our flat share and working out.

I was on furlough when I started making candles and was subsequently made redundant from my role at STA Travel in the Digital Content team when they went into administration. I was bought a beginner’s kit from Cosy Owl by my housemate as an alternative evening activity and intensively put my time into learning as much as I can!”.

Since launching her own business, Makes Scents Candles has grown in strength. It’s brand mission is to create handmade candles designed to be up-cycled, in a way that’s as sustainable as possible. The candles are plant based through and through as they’re made from sustainably sourced soy wax and come with wildflower seeds and a biodegradable grow bag for up-cycling the container. Packaging is as eco-friendly as possible, and we are always evaluating this to improve the way we do things. Makes Scents are stocked online and were also picked up by a new spa in Hackney Wick/Stratford.

Abbey is excited to begin work with Cosy Owl adding:

“I’m really excited to be partnering up with Cosy Owl for this first event, I love the brand and I am keen to share an easy accessible introduction to candle making. I’m really intrigued to see how everyone takes to the process and what they create.

Who knows, it may spark an interest in a new hobby or lead people to try something completely different as they revaluate what’s important this year!”

Richard Fewings, Managing Director of Cosy Owl commented:

“Abbey White stood out as she showed a good all round commercial awareness, whilst lots of creative potential, her application was very strong and she has a great onscreen presence – something which will be important for leading our virtual candle making events.

We can’t wait to see what our new virtual candle making events bring for the crafts community.”
