Glass and round shapes are a staple of interior design, the smooth surfaces and lines are perfect to decorate and furnish any home environment. So why not give it a personal ‘’spin’’ and create a unique ornament using your favourite colours and fragrance?

Follow this easy video tutorial created in partnership with Victoria of Cosy & Country, as she guides us through the process of making a layered candle in a glass bubble ball that will give a unique atmosphere to your home.

Ingredients

Step 1 – Measure Your Wax

First, you need to pour the wax into your melting pots but before doing so, you should measure out the amount of wax required. Depending on how many colours you want to use and how many layers you want to obtain, you will need to calculate how much wax is required per each pot.

We have weighed out 185g of wax into two pots which will make up the 6 layers between our 2 colours.

Step 2 – Melt the First Layer

Once you have measured out your wax, you’ll need to place the first pot onto a medium heat. Make sure to keep an eye on the melting process and remember to stir every now and then.

Step 3 – Prepare Your Container

Whilst you wait for your wax to melt, you can prepare your glass bubble ball container. Take your glue dot and peel one side off and stick it firmly on the base of the wick. Peel off the other side and position it at the bottom of the container, making sure it is as central as possible. Once you are happy with your positioning, press down the base of the wick to your container.

Then you can use your wick centering tool on top of the container to hold the wick in place.

Step 4 – Add Your Dye

Time to return to your wax and check that the temperature isn’t too hot to add your dye. If it is too hot, leave it to cool for a couple of minutes until the wax has reached the ideal temperature of 65°C. Then, take your first coloured dye (we chose cream) and pour around 1g into the wax and stir gently to completely dissolve it.

Be careful, the dyes are quite strong, so if you are aiming for a softer shade be mindful and start with smaller amounts and add more if necessary.

Step 5 – Add Your Fragrance Oil

Pop your melting pot containing the dyed wax onto a scale and add your chosen fragrance oil – we used Lemon Sherbet. A suggested amount, in this case, would be around 15ml of fragrance oil – roughly, a 10% ratio. Gently stir your fragrance oil into your wax, ensuring no bubbles are caused.

Step 6 – Pour Your First Layer

We have calculated that we will need around 64g for each layer. Making sure the wax is between 55°C – 60°C, place your container on your scales and slowly pour your first layer. Then leave it to cool for half an hour.

Step 7 – Repeat the Process for the Second Layer

Repeat all the previous steps again for your second layer using your chosen coloured dye – we used yellow to match with the Lemon Sherbet fragrance oil. After 30 minutes, the first layer would have settled nicely into the container, so gently pour your second layer.

Keep repeating the process for each layer until you have achieved your desired result. The wax will set inside your melting pots but don’t worry, you can simply remelt it but make sure you don’t let it exceed 55°C – 60°C.

Step 8 – Trim The Wick

After your candle has cooled for 24 hours, it’s time to trim the wick to around 5mm.

Step 9 – Enjoy!

Well done! Your beautiful, fragrant layered creation is ready to embellish your favourite spot.
